I chose to do a "mario kart" type of intro to showcase the map the player will race in.
Level Design
Because I had to do a time trial map, I centered the theme of the circuit about Time itself.
For that, I used giant clock gears scattered around the map as decoration, but also as obstacles.
I opted for a bichromatic black and white theme to because I thought that those two colors represented the impartiality and neutrality of Time the best.
Furthermore, these two colors are also a mean to represent the difficulty of the map.
The black track is the main and normal path, meanwhile the white track is a faster but harder route.
I named the game 光陰 (kouin) which means "time passing by" and uses the kanji for light and shadow.
Gamefeel
I made a white-blueish trail to emphasize the feeling of speed. It lengthens or shortens depending on the current velocity.
This trail turns red when braking to add a bit of detail and give player information.
The sound of the drone engine also changes with different speeds.
